Each day, we have a maximum of eight children in our class and one teacher, Miss Wendy. Miss Wendy likes to make learning fun so the children are eager to participate as she prepares them for Pre-School.
Our shool opens at 6:30 A.M. At this time all chilren meet in one classroom. We enjoy this time to play with children who may not be in our classroom. This is also time for brothers and sisters to be together.
We start each morning with a snack around 9:00 A.M. This is a special time for us. We serve ourselves and work on our table manners. Miss Wendy enjoys this opportunity to develop language and social skills, as well as discussing good nutrition. We share bits 'n pieces about ourselves, our families & friends. We work on our self-help skills as we clean up. Our self esteem is heightened whenever we do things for ourselves. We are assigned us a different job each day such as being the line leader, a snack helper or a mat helper.
Each day Miss Wendy will have a special activity planned, which may include arts and crafts, a baking project, a simple science experiment and so on. Our activities may seem simple to you, however, Miss Wendy plans them very carefully. When we use pencils, markers, or crayons and we paint, cut, fold, lace or glue; we are developing the small muscles in our fingers (fine motor skills). We are also learning to share materials and work with our peers. We are working our imagination and we are learning about our new project. We are responsible for clean up which teaches us to take pride in our work and our classroom. Miss Wendy stimulates our natural curiosity so we ask a lot of questions and engage in conversation with each other. This type of interaction encourages us to reason and solve problems by making generalizations, understand relationships and make conclusions. This time together also develops communication skills and our vocabulary, which prepares us for reading. Always remember, Mom and Dad: WE LEARN BY DOING!
The Clubhouse teachers know we learn by experiencing many different activities so we enjoy many outside interactions. The Clubhouse works very hard to bring new activities to us. Each year we experience the fire truck and firemen visiting during fire safety month while to talk about fire safety. The Derry Police also drop in to discuss strangers and safety. The Easter Bunny comes at Easter and, of course, Santa always makes a visit at Christmas. During nutritional month, a dental hygienist visits us with her big toothbrush and big teeth to clean. Karate, cooking classes and swim lessons are also available for an additional fee.
We understand that you will be anxious the first couple of weeks when you first leave your child Parents, of course, are welcome, anytime. If you have any questions regarding your child's care, please let us know. Our goal is to work closely together to provide the best care for your child.
