Welcome to The Clubhouse Pre-School Program!
Our pre-school has twelve children and one teacher, Miss Melanie. She has ten years of prior experience working with children which includes working with special needs children. Miss Melanie has her degree in Early Childhood Education. She enjoys introducing the children to a variety of experiences and she challenges them on a daily basis to try new things.
Around 9:00 A.M. we have snack time. This is a special time for us. We serve ourselves and practice our table manners. Miss Melanie enjoys this opportunity to work on our language and social skills, as well as teach us about good nutrition. We also share bits 'n pieces about ourselves, our families and our friends.
We are all responsible to take care of our classroom so Miss Miss Melaine assigns each of us with a daily job. At circle time we also discuss the activities planned for the day, review the calendar and discuss the weather. Miss Melanie stimulates our natural curiosity by asking us many questions. In turn we also ask a lot of questions and engage in conversation with each other. This encourages reasoning and problem solving as we make generalizations, understand relationships and come to our own conclusions. We often have a cooking project when we use skills such as math, patience, listening and following instructions.
Our activities may seem simple to you, however they are planned very carefully. When we use pencils, markers or crayons and we paint, cut, fold, lace or glue, we are developing the small muscles in our fingers (fine motor skills). We are also learning to share materials and work together with our peers. We use our imaginations while we learn about our projects. We are responsible for clean up which teaches us to take pride in our work & our room.
After our morning activity we break-up into small groups. We are allowed to choose our activities and our fellow playmates. Some of us may want to go into housekeeping and pretend to be the mommy and daddy or perhaps become a waitress or waiter. Some enjoy playing with blocks and building a big tower. Other activities that we can choose from may include puppet shows, dress-up, matching and sorting games, rhythm instruments, manipulatives or special projects Miss Melanie may set up for us. These types of play help teach us the skills we need to learn. We learn about math, science, sequencing, listening, sharing and following directions. We make rules amongst ourselves and learn to change those rules when we need to. Miss Melanie facilitates by helping us to learn how to handle conflicts and solve problems in appropriate ways. You can learn a lot through play!
If the weather cooperates we try to go outside twice a day. We socialize, climb, slide, run, jump, yell, play games and explore the sand & water table. If the weather does not cooperate, Miss Melanie will choose other fun active games like dance, music, an obstacle course, mini trampoline, tunnel, etc. This type of activity is important in developing large muscles and coordination (gross motor skills).
Miss Melanie will provide you with a daily Report Card. It will tell you how much we ate for snack and lunch, whether or not we napped and our general disposition for the day. She will also describe a morning activity we did. She does this so you and I have a “conversation starter” for the way home. Four year olds do not know where to start when asked, "What did you do today?" and will usually answer with a "Nothing". The Report Card will give you information so you may ask specific questions. Twice a year a Progress Report will be sent home with a record of your child’s development and their readiness for kindergarten!
Our goal is to work closely with you to provide the best care for you and your child.
